North Ridgeville Mayor G. David Gillock announced Jan. Gillock said in his speech at the North Ridgeville Academic Center that he is planning to retire after serving 16 years as mayor. Gillock said he has a list of things he would like to do outside of serving as mayor, such as traveling, spending more time with his family and pursuing his passion for fishing on Lake Erie in his boat.

Gillock first thanked his family for their support and then city service members, officials and City Hall staff for being diligent in their duties. When he became mayor in December , he met with Ohio Department of Transportation and told them he wanted to widen Center Ridge Road. Gillock said other commercial projects include University Hospitals North Ridgeville Health Center off of Lorain Road opening in June, the Rudolph Libbe opening in May, the growth in facilities through the school district and a new fire station coming in April.
He has said it was brought to his attention that some believed the flooding issue was taken care of.
The 49th annual North Ridgeville Corn Festival kicked off Friday with the naming of former North Ridgeville Mayor David Gillock as the Golden Kernel Award.
